Water management for community and environment

In Queensland, Santos GLNG has extensive strategies and procedures in place to responsibly and safely manage water extracted as part of natural gas production and to monitor the surface water and groundwater in the areas where we operate.

Expected water extraction is about 100 gigalitres in total over the next 30 years, with peak production of about 25 million litres per day around 2021. This is based on a maximum conservative scenario and at present, our water production is significantly less than forecast.

The volume of coal seam water produced changes over time, and we manage water using a number of solutions in accordance with the regulatory framework.
